The revised Taxpayers' Charter was released on the 3rd November 2003 - it sets out what the community can expect when dealing with the Tax Office.
Tax Commissioner Michael Carmody said the Tax Office had reviewed the document after consultation with the community.
"Feedback from the community was that the rights and obligations detailed in the original Charter were pretty much on track, but that they could be presented better," Mr Carmody said.
"Some of the rights have been reworded to clarify their meaning and we've also strengthened the importance of community cooperation in administering the tax system.
"We have updated the design of the document to make it easier for people to locate what they need.
"It is important that people are aware of their rights and obligations when dealing with the Tax Office."
The Taxpayers' Charter and associated publications are available from the Tax Office website at www.ato.gov.au
